Knee joint health

Caring for one's knees is a very important endeavor. After all, one only has 2 knees and there is much confusion over what are the best practices for longevity and health. One helpful tip is losing weight. It is said for every pound that someone loses it is like taking 4 pounds off of each knee. This makes sense when one looks at how much pressure is generated during walking up stairs. The body often generates forces 3 to 4 times its own weight when one goes up the stairs.

Another beneficial habit is noting where one is doing exercise. During times of evolution humans exercised on grass, gravel, dirt etc. Humans did not evolve to run on hard surfaces such as pavement or concrete. Giving your joints a natural area to exercise is an easy strategy to help prolong their maintenance.

If one is having knee pain, an examination of one's knee can sometimes reveal instability such as an internal derangement. This can be further investigated using imaging.
